There's Something Refreshing About "Good" Classical Music

Classical music is like poetry, it's a
soothing balm to a weary soul.
image of a penny with 'In God We Trust' Is there any other way to describe the affect of "good" classical music on someone who is tired and worn out with life? Is there a better way to look at the gentleness of art in the form of song, chamber music, opera, or a dynamic symphony?

I listen to classical music a lot while I write, transpose, translate, and work with visual

content. To me, it's part of who I am, who I've been for a long time. I mostly listen to classical through Internet Radio (I'll post a list of links at the end), but I've purchased my fair share of cassette tapes and CD's (anyone remember what a "cassette" is?).

When I was a child, I saw advertisements on television concerning a series of 33-1/3 rpm records that featured the world's renown classical's. Oh how much I wanted that record collection, but it came at a price, and it was more than my allowance would allow me. By the time I reached Junior High, I had pretty much given up hope of ever getting that record collection.

Fast forward to the 1990's, and now as an adult in my 40's, I had the income necessary to purchase that record collection, but it was no longer anywhere in sight. So I settled on a collection of CD's (anyone remember what a Compact Disk is?) where almost every composer was represented. Not only did I purchase that collection, but I purchased many, many more.

The other thing I did was to purchase box after box of audio cassette tapes at the "Barn Sale," which was a weekend thing that took place each week in a barn--hence the "Barn Sale."

I've been told by several people in the know that I'm a very old soul and that this will be my last visit to this place. Well, to sooth my weary mind, I'll continue to listen to Classical music. How about you (click here to share your favorites with me: abcolombo@usa.com, or comment below)?
